CIGARS: PREMIUM OR NOT PREMIUM ?
In the
dictionary * Ibertabac devoted to the world of tobacco, one can read the exact
and original definition (born in Spain, cradle of the modern cigar, in the
sixteenth century) of the term "PREMIUM".
Alta
regalía (in Spanish): cigars made entirely by hand and of superior quality.
which we call more generally today "Premium".

In this
definition, there are three terms that most manufacturers, smokers and even
aficionados of cigars have totally forgotten, probably for commercial and
marketing reasons, for some, and for rejection of elitism for others.
These are
the words "fully" and "superior quality".
Yes. A
cigar "PREMIUM" is a cigar "entirely" made by hand and not
partially and especially of "superior quality".
Premium
cigars, everyone in fact or everyone thinks he can do it. If it was enough to
take tobacco, a good "torcedor", wrap it in a pretty cape and put a
ring by writing on it "handmade", I would do it myself every day.
We must
stop talking about Premium cigars, only by the fact that they are handmade.
I make
Premium Cigars and believe me, a premium cigar is as good for its material as
it is for the way it's made.
To make
cigar Premium, you must of course the talent of a "torcedor", because
the cigar must be slightly tight but not too much and above all it must not be
soft as seen in many poor quality cigars, sometimes sold by major brands of
cigars, which I would not name to avoid any problem.
Once that
is said, if we have the best "torcedor" in the world and the tobacco
is bad, the cigar will be bad.
I spend my
life looking for high quality tobaccos, designing blends and making Premium
cigars, and I have to say that selling a Robusto Premium for under $ 10 today
is an aberration.
I'm not
against cheap cigars, it is necessary that everyone can smoke within his means
but please stop talking about Premium for any cigar under the pretext that it
is handmade!
